Odile Gilbert: Creative Style Icon

Odile Gilbert's work at Rodarte Fall 2012 on Jourdan Dunn

Rodarte/ Odile Gilbert's Game of Thrones inspired Spring 2013 RTW look on Karlie Kloss

Is it hard to believe that some of my favorite runway looks come from just one person? This question dawned on me just a few weeks ago when I found myself admiring the beauty looks of the Rodarte Spring 2013 Ready to Wear collection. The metal ear jewelry, the faux undercut hair, a sleek come over and a mood that invoked Game of Thrones. The looks were created by Odile Gilbert, the creative force behind some of the most creative and innovative hairstyles that grace the runway and that we struggle to re-create in the comfort of our own bathroom mirrors.

One of my other favorite hair styles was Odile 's Funny Face /African influences in Christian Lacroix's Spring 2008 RTW show, the show I was ironically trying to crash when I was in Paris in the Fall of 2007. As of late, you can see Odile's amazing work for NYFW and Paris Fashion Week's finest.

Odile Gilbert Creation's Gold Hair Pin- 9cm

If you are looking to spice up your hair starting this year (much like myself) and have a few clams to spare for your hair and I mean clams. You should definitely consider Odile Gilbert Creation's Hair Pin. I bought one over the holidays at Colette and let me tell you, there is nothing like it. I got the 9 cm pin as its good for short to medium hair, plus my hair is on the fine side.
The pin so simple, so effective and amazing! I love Odile's signature side pony and it took 2 seconds to re-create the look.  So in the meantime, I can enjoy my new discovery until the upcoming NYFW and PFW to check out some of Odile's new hair innovations.

Lacroix Forever Tote

Yes, its been a week since the couture show and I whole heartily expect a comeback for Spring 2010. What a way to bring a new decade right?
The optimist in me says Lacroix will pull through and I created a Lacroix Forever Tote.
Though my fabric pen does not justice for the words I want to express to a great artist (and namesake), I figure at a time like this-it's needed.

Au Revoir Lacroix

Such sad news for weeks was finally brought to a head yesterday when Christian Lacroix concluded ( what is believed to be) his last couture show. Though rumors tell us LVMH may be in the market to finance him and Lacroix made an appearance at the Givenchy couture show ( backed by LVMH) nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Save Lacroix!

I’ve been seriously avoiding this post but have been tuning into wwd.com and nymag.com for more developments. The recession has taken a chunk of high fashion labels and brought them down to facing artistry vs. sales in the most serious way. Labels like Aquascutum, Luella and Versace has been restructuring and or folding. Unfortunately Christian Lacroix is in the same boat.
The short? Basically he’s been designing for his own label for free, profits are down which means people are not getting paid. The possibility for the Fall ’09 collection being manufactured? None. Couture show in July? No.
So, you mean to tell me that I only had one chance to go to the Lacroix show in ’07 and I blew it!?!
Please Save Lacroix!

Gearing up: San Diego Pride Weekend!

I'm really excited for this weekend- it's pride!

I support a great community fighting for civil rights and equality for all and my weekend officially kicks off on Friday at the Lei Lounge.

Saturday will be the peak of fun with the parade, while my friends will have their outfits and pieces together- I'm still struggling to put together a "look". From what I remember from the past few is that- the weather is hot and muggy, so I have make sure my makeup is swelter proof.
Sunday I'm going to see Kathy Griffin lay some on the crowd- too much fun!

Ideas that come to mind- recreating the Christian Lacroix colorful smoky eyes!, lots of glitter...looots of glitter, getting a nice purple wig and some lashes at Flashbacks.

I dunno yet but will definitely keep you posted!

In the mean time, I'm trying to figure out which MAC Pigments were used for the CL Couture eyes? Teal? Cornflower?
Can the couture be a prelude to a MAC and Christian Lacroix Collab??? ( fingers crossed~ please make my dream come true).

Couture Fall '08- Les yeux de Lacroix

Loving the peacock smoky eye that Stephane Marais created!
Beautiful  M.A.C pigments created the standout lime, olive and aquamarine's on the models for the Fall '08 Couture show.
The lace veil gave the perfect touch of mystery but the color shown through is the delight!
The look I fell head over heels for was the beautiful purple silk gown detailed with teal and a burgundy velvet belt.

How I heart your couture Monsieur Lacroix!!

Christian Lacroix Fall '08 look

+ =

Marlene +Nomi= Lacroix's Fall '08 runway look.
I love the sophistication..but can fall be relaxed and playful too?
Spring is in two weeks and I'm not ready to retire a burgundy lippie after seeing this... ok maybe I am.
Thankfully the clothes in the collection are striking and the hair buns with the gold clips are fierce!

Christian Lacroix Couture été 2008

If on Wednesday's we wear pink.. let's wear purple on Thursday!

After the Teacup Party Noir from Monsieur Lacroix from the Prét a porter collection, I thought that the strong dark smoky eye would repeat itself but, with time and some sunshine a little purple/ violet on the eyes revealed a springtime come-hither thats not intimidating. It's a garden celebtration, somewhere to go after the tea party and that was portrayed in the makeup-looks for Christian Lacroix's Summer 2008 collection.
The coordinated lips fit as well, the violet iris-like depth with a pink of pink to give a great play on the summer bold lip sans going the Red or Rosey route.

Suggestions for the look? Try MAC's Fertile eyeshadow from the Strange Hybrid Collection.

C'est Magnifique!

The Couture Report:Cuffs and Bangles

So maybe ( just maybe) you feel ( like me ) that Spring brings the same old light colors and a bit of floral mixed in. I'm not a floral person. But I did notice that on Chanel and Christian Lacroix runways that cuffs and bangles make cool accesories.. especially if you don't wear any at all.
I like the inscribed phrases on the Chanel ones and I love the black bangles on Christian Lacroix's, now where to find them....
