Odile Gilbert: Creative Style Icon

Odile Gilbert's work at Rodarte Fall 2012 on Jourdan Dunn

Rodarte/ Odile Gilbert's Game of Thrones inspired Spring 2013 RTW look on Karlie Kloss

Is it hard to believe that some of my favorite runway looks come from just one person? This question dawned on me just a few weeks ago when I found myself admiring the beauty looks of the Rodarte Spring 2013 Ready to Wear collection. The metal ear jewelry, the faux undercut hair, a sleek come over and a mood that invoked Game of Thrones. The looks were created by Odile Gilbert, the creative force behind some of the most creative and innovative hairstyles that grace the runway and that we struggle to re-create in the comfort of our own bathroom mirrors.

One of my other favorite hair styles was Odile 's Funny Face /African influences in Christian Lacroix's Spring 2008 RTW show, the show I was ironically trying to crash when I was in Paris in the Fall of 2007. As of late, you can see Odile's amazing work for NYFW and Paris Fashion Week's finest.

Odile Gilbert Creation's Gold Hair Pin- 9cm

If you are looking to spice up your hair starting this year (much like myself) and have a few clams to spare for your hair and I mean clams. You should definitely consider Odile Gilbert Creation's Hair Pin. I bought one over the holidays at Colette and let me tell you, there is nothing like it. I got the 9 cm pin as its good for short to medium hair, plus my hair is on the fine side.
The pin so simple, so effective and amazing! I love Odile's signature side pony and it took 2 seconds to re-create the look.  So in the meantime, I can enjoy my new discovery until the upcoming NYFW and PFW to check out some of Odile's new hair innovations.

Fall 2011 Looks: Anne Valerie Hash's Vampy Boudoir Lips

photos: Elle.com

Anne Valerie Hash's Fall 2011 lips reminded me that I needed to shop my stash to create these vampy shades.  Break out your YSL  Pur Black Gloss and evaluate your MAC Style Black collection to see  if your  Bling Black Glimmerglass is ready, its time to vamp it up by layering the gloss over some supreme matte lipsticks for some boudoir lips! My favorite mattes are  MAC's Charred Red, Sin and Diva, Chanel's Classic Vamp and Bobbi Brown's Chocolate.

Fall 2011 Looks: Louis Vuitton Graphic Cat Eye

photos: Style.com and Topshop.com

After seeing all the beauty trends post Fall 2011 fashion week, I got really excited about a few. Some tips and techniques are fun to wear just about anywhere while others are observed for that special night out with the girls or during a holiday party.
With that, I started my list of the Fall 2011 looks that I liked the most and I could see myself experimenting with.
Exhibit A would be Louis Vuitton's Graphic Cat Eye. With a couple of swipes of a liquid eyeliner, this look can be done in about 5 minutes. Though Anna Sui had a similar Graphic Eye look ( I would consider it a Mod Graphic Eye), the LV eye looks super sexy. I recently tested this look with my Topshop Liner and forgot that I only did one eye and walked out of my apartment to got get lightbulbs from Duane Reade. While I was looking at some nail polish,  I realized that I had only done one eye! So I had to play it off as though I was " Edgy" while buying bulbs.. haha memo to self, next time check the mirror before leaving the apt.

Lanvin's Spring 2011 beauty

Photo from Style.com

Hot off the webpress from Paris Fashion week is a look from Lanvin. I'll be sure to do a wrap up on all faves during Spring 2011 Fashion Weeks, but what intrigued me about Lanvin's show and Style.com's write-up on the backstage beauty was Pat McGrath's use of a new Covergirl product, NaturalLuxe Silk foundation for the natural matte finish for the show. I can't wait to hear more about CG and Proctor and Gamble's push to introduce more "greener" products and packaging. Hopefully this product is is the first step for both companies to participate in "green" beauty. We will see..

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2010: Insects, Aliens, Alexander McQueen

Last night I tuned into Alexander McQueen's broadcast of his Spring 2010 show and didn't know what to expect- now I know. The future of the It shoe is six months away with the help of these 10-inch McQueen "Alien" shoes featured on the runway show. I anticipated a serious spill during the show but everyone trotted along (albeit at varying speeds).
The other standouts- the hair! The first batch of girls had insect inspired hair to match their print dresses while the aquatic girls had hair that looked like razor sharp wings.

Overall, the dresses look wearable but the hardware is definitely something I will be looking forward to in editorials until I get the shoes myself, what I will wear them with? Oh, just a t-shirt and jeans.

Video of the show is here and NSFW.

It's Chanel, My Belle!: The body suit of my dreams

I've had this on-going love affair with something so futuristic, beautiful, powerful yet very very impractical for my budget- the Chanel cashmere and silk bodysuit and leggings from the Fall Winter 2009 RTW collection.
For the price of a 2000 Honda Accord, or about 3 months rent- you can have this killer outfit- and I want it! Where will I wear it?, I dunno- I guess I could treat it as long johns and it can insulate me in the winter when its 2 degrees outside. I'll proudly wear a smile knowing that something warm, fuzzy and blessed by Karl is being worn.
What I really wonder is, why was this created in the midst of a recession Karl?! Its not fair! Its not like I could have afforded it anyway- but why couldn't this come out say 2 years ago when you did the whole "Americana Blue Jean" RTW show for Spring 2008.

Topshop, H&M, make my wish come true at 95% off.

Chanel Fall '09: Is Mint the New Black?

All of the models in Chanel's Fall '09 look had mint green nails!
It's excitement when you can see that the shade will work for all as Karl did have some diverse beauties in the show ( including my fave Karen Elson).
More Paris Fall '09 posts to come..

Christian Lacroix Fall '08 look

+ =

Marlene +Nomi= Lacroix's Fall '08 runway look.
I love the sophistication..but can fall be relaxed and playful too?
Spring is in two weeks and I'm not ready to retire a burgundy lippie after seeing this... ok maybe I am.
Thankfully the clothes in the collection are striking and the hair buns with the gold clips are fierce!

Bienvenue Paris Fashion Week!

Today starts the official day of Paris pret-a porter!
I'll start my coverage as soon as the furvor comes down the runway.

But for now... I'll continue to stay dry, study for the GMAT and find new and exciting beauty dibbs to share. Until this upcoming week, I'd like to share with you some info from Bryanboy, one of my favorite bloggers.
EFJ ( Enviornmental Justice Foundation) has teamed up with some haute designers ( yes this includes Lacroix) to make t-shirts that are 100% cotton and ethically made!
Check it out here http://www.ejfoundation.org/page427.html

Until then. a plus!

Stella McCartney Fall '07

So far SM is in the #1 spot for me as far as fall looks.
Skin: Clean, light with Concealor
Eyes: Pink with Mauve in the crease, and pink lined eyes.
Cheeks:Creame muted Rose
Lips: Pink lipstick with clear gloss on top.

The look is dewy, natural and healthy.. see a trend?
Usually fall consists of burgandy, matte tones, subdued browns, charcoal and a variation of red lips and or winged liner for the eyes.
Judging so far from Paris Fashion week's Makeup looks- enhancing what you've got is plain and simply the best.
Especially at a time when there is controversy over models dying from Anorexia nervousa, women starving and binging at alarming rates and the alarming statistic of 40% of American 9-year-olds diet.
I think its time to take a look and appreciate what we naturally have.

You did it again Monsieur!

I love the dark coats, Boucle hair clips and jewels and the kickin' boots. I'm so excited for Lacroix's Fall collection. What really does it for me is the bright fuschia lmd ( little mini dress), too cute for words and definately holiday worthy.

The model's look was fabu too. Still in-style smokey eye, dewy skin and pink lip.

To sum the collection up I would say it was whimsical.

Karl Lagerfeld Fall'07

For some reason I think that this show has been done before- like back in '03 execpt for it was a Chanel show.. coincidence. Anywho, I like the model's makeup. Khol rimmed eyes, Matte nude/ fushia lips, bright pink nails.. It's the 80's all over again, and again and again.

Fall 07 look Viktor & Rolf

The fall 07 forecast looks about the same as it did last year.. lots of dark blues, purples and greys. Break out the Black Satin again!

I really like this look by Viktor & Rolf. Flushy Cheeks, Flushy lips and gold eyeshadow.. nice and simple. Nothing to out shadow the fact that the models were strung to rigs. Ouch.
Nice and healthy make-up alternative to the mundane super cyborg look that I'm starting to see for the summer. I'm not partial to silvers and hyper reflective shadows and hi-lighters.. why? because I get oily. and When oil mixes with things that are supposed to make you "glow" you look like a hyper-reactor.

Anywho. where was I .. oh Nice and healthy makeup alternative. Yes, definately something to look forward to- hey it even makes the models look lively!

The Couture Report:Cuffs and Bangles

So maybe ( just maybe) you feel ( like me ) that Spring brings the same old light colors and a bit of floral mixed in. I'm not a floral person. But I did notice that on Chanel and Christian Lacroix runways that cuffs and bangles make cool accesories.. especially if you don't wear any at all.
I like the inscribed phrases on the Chanel ones and I love the black bangles on Christian Lacroix's, now where to find them....
