Goodbye Summer!

My Summer intern style

This week I was featured on Refinery 29's Intern perfect outfits! I was super excited to show my quirky with my Ebay (Balenciaga shirt and Marc Jacobs skirt) and Loehmann's (Givenchy heels) finds. The clutch is from Forever 21 and the necklace is from H&M (I forgot to tell the editor :S).

Next week, I begin as a second year in my MBA program. I'm currently trying to hold on to the summer warmth but I can definitely start to feel the breeze. Gotta make the most of the Labor day weekend and catch up on Degrassi High ( yes, the oldschool one).

P.S, I'm wearing Chanel's Audace Rouge Allure, Its a nice red with a hint of orange.

Beauty Chat with Allure Magazine at the HBA Global Expo

The Allure Team and Rebecca of Naomi and Jean, Me, Carla of Fashion Maven Mommy , Diana, and Elaine

HBA 2012 Beauty Enthusiast Panel with Jill Steinbach Friedson

A few weeks ago, I was hand selected by Allure Magazine (the Beauty Bible!) to not only be a Beauty Enthusiast but also to participate on a panel at the 2012 HBA Global Expo last week.
I mean, who gets to sit around and dish on your favorite beauty products in front of your favorite magazine?! Well, I did! I also met fellow Beauty Enthusiasts Carla of Fashion Maven Mommy, Rebecca of Naomi and Jean, Diana and Elaine! I felt like I was at a slumber party but in broad day light! We all are so passionate about beauty products, the energy was nothing short of amazing!

We all gushed over our favorite cosmetics of the moment, why we love them and how we go about seeking our Holy Grail (HG) beauty product. It was so comforting to know that these ladies, like me, want the 411 on new product from our favorite brands ASAP and working with Allure, we were able to spill our secrets on what makes us feel good about your beauty products.

To note, Carla loves Givenchy's Mister Lash Booster, Rebecca loves Youngblood Cosmetic's Luminous Cream Blush in Rose Quartz, Diana loves Dior's Diorshow Mascara, I love Chanel's nail colors and YSL's Touche Eclat and Elaine loves Benefit's Stay Don't Stray.

Special Thanks to the Allure Magazine Team: Jill, Jennifer and Cathleen for the amazing experience!

Spring Shoe-in: Givenchy Jelly Zip Sandals

Givenchy Jelly Zip Sandals. Photo from Barneys.com

Givenchy Jelly Zip Sandals. Photo by Lacroix

The unusually warm weather got me thinking about my Spring footwear. My favorite for the past 2 summers have been my Givenchy Jelly Sandals that I reviewed here, and let me tell you- those shoes have run their course! So much so that last fall when I was wearing my baby's out, a women started talking about how she loved her Giv Jellies too but they started cracking and falling apart and how mine were in good shape. I thanked her for her compliment and assured her that my shoes were being held together my a weekly cleanings and superglue for the cracks!
Anywho, I started on my mission for my new jelly sandals and were so pleased with my Givenchy's from 2 years past that I started browsing Barneys.com for my replacement sandals. Luckily, this seasons jelly sandals ( at least appear) as though they are more bad ass than my former. The 2012 "gladiator" sandal features thicker plastic with zipper detail, a wider toe area and an ankle buckle for easy adjusting. The sandal is available in 3 colors: Army green, Black and Beige. I chose beige after the success of my beige sandal from yesteryear even though it seems to be the most impractical color to wear, on your feet no less, in NYC. The trick is watch where you are walking!
Since finals are upon me, these are still in the box and will be ready for the wearing at the end of the month.

Top Performing Beauty Brands of 2009

WWD Beauty Biz ranked up the Beauty's Top 100 largest beauty movers and shakers of 2009, which is also a glimps into how brands are performing in 2010, seeing as the year is not over yet. Overall, sales in 2009 declined but generated $140.78 Billion in total. That's a whole lot of products (defined in categories of Fragrance, Makeup, Haircare, Deoderant, Suncare, Cellulite and Shaving ).
Mass market certainly dominates the beauty market share as luxury brands have been on a decline, but not as much of a decline to stop future sales- standout products, re-formulations and re-newed consumer focus has helped luxe brands stay a float in a time of limited spending and skincare has rapidly increased in sales while makeup has had slow gains.
So who are the top performing beauty brands that we love, covet and spend our hard earned money engaging Makeup Artists on new products, searching forums, blogs and YouTube for reviews, swatches and support?

#1 L'Oreal ( $24.36 Billion) - Brands:L'Oreal Paris, Lancome, YSL Beauty, Maybelline, Shu Uemura
In 2009, L'Oreal's sales declined for the first time in seven years, however the brand is number one in beauty with consumer products such as L'Oreal Paris, Maybelline and Garnier. With $10.8 billion in strong sales, key performing brands are Maybelline and Garnier. Maybelline has garnered quite the mascara collection in the past few years and Garnier's skincare.
Western Europe is L'Oreal's leading market while sales in North America have declined.

#2 Proctor & Gamble Co.( $18.6 Billion)- Brands: Covergirl, Pantene, Dolce & Gabbana, Olay, Old Spice
When I think "Blue Chip" Beauty, I think of P&G. Pantene for haircare, CG for makeup and Old Spice for men's grooming. Sales fell for P&G but Covergir; and Olay's simply ageless succeeded in generating $1 billion in sales. Pantene products were introduced to new packaging and new ingredients this year and Cover Girl has a heavy roster of diverse spokeswomen ( Ellen DeGeneres, Queen Latifah, Drew Berrymore) , consumer favorites- Lash Blast series and Cover Girl Queen Collection and Pat McGrath at the helm as Executive Design director for the brand.

#4 Estee Lauder ( $7.8 Billion)- Brands: Estee Lauder, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Bumble Bumble, Aveda
Skincare accounted for 40% of Estee Lauder brand's sales with 39% in makeup and 15% in fragrance, respectively. Estee also acquired the Smashbox studios which is key for photo shoots and LA fashion week. Clinique up'ed their anti aging game with Even Better, Tom Ford Beauty held strong and MAC teamed with Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper for a campaign. Estee Lauder currently has Tom Pecheux is the Creative Makeup Director for the brand.

#6 Shiseido ( $6.83 Billion)- Brands: Shisedo, NARS, Cle´ de Peau Beaute´
Shiseido's key markets are Japan, China and Europe. While sales in North America took a dive, the brand strategically snapped up Bare Essentual which positions Shiseido for expansion in the US. Unfortunately, sales information for NARS cosmetics was not available at the time of the WWD Beauty Biz report.

#10 Chanel ( $3.95 Billion)
Chanel's makeup revenues declined 10% due to the economies of the brands major markets- the US and Japan. The US is Chanel's largest beauty market with France and Japan following. Women's fragrance is number one worldwide with Chanel Beauty at number four and skincare is in ninth place. Key product launches this year include Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lipstick, Chanel Bleu Fragrance for men and Asia exclusives- Vitalumiere Eclat Compact powder foundation and Mascara Sublime WP.

#11 LVMH Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton ( $3.82 Billion)- Christian Dior Parfumes, Givenchy, Guerlain.
Strong performers under LVMH were Givenchy's fragrances and Christian Dior's mascarsa. Cosmetics generated 28%, unchanges since last year while fragrances were strong with 53% of sales. Key products include Givenchy Play with Justin Timberlake as the brand's face and Diorshow mascara with Monica Bellucci as the spokes woman.

Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip & Cheek Balm Review

While checking out the summer collections at Sephora on Broadway, I tested Givenchy's new Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip & Cheek Balm.
This sleek new balm claims to hydrate your lips and cheeks with sheer color, a la Givenchy Gloss Poetique Natural Color Enhancer .
The formula is sheer and glossy thanks to Luffa Oil, which replenishes the lipids. the consistency is light compared to the Givenchy Gloss Poetique Natural Color Enhancer, which was more of a gel formula.
As for the color changing conundrum that left me discouraged from Givenchy Gloss Poetique Natural Color Enhancer the rose hue really comes through on the Hydra Sparkling Balm.

Beauty Review: Givenchy Gloss Poetique Natural Color Enhancer Lipgloss

Description: Givenchy's answer to custom beauty, a gloss that transforms any lips to a rosey hue.

Texture/Consistency/Composition: a gel-like balm, much like Rosebud Salve- the smell is reminds me of Loreal lipstick- which I find awful.

Color: Rosey?

Beauty of color friendly? No

Grade: out of 5 ( 5 being Excellent) 1 out of 5- great concept but the science is just not there yet.

Price and where to find it:$45/ Sephora.com

Intrigue brought me to purchase Givenchy's Gloss Poetique Natural Color Enhancer gloss.

Unfortunately, it just didn't do it's job.
After testing, I found that my lips looked as rosey as me applying just plain ol' chapstick -and with that I could have bought 45 chapsticks for the price of one Givenchy gloss.
Yes, I'm disappointing, considering I love Phenomen'eyes.
Sigh.

Givenchy Jelly Gillie Sandal Review

My shoes arrived on Monday and I love them!
Very comfortable and the color is very cool as they are not white but a light grey, therefore the NYC dirt, dust and grime won't get to them as much as they would if they were a lighter color.
Plus, putting a little soap and water on them at the end of the day restores the color and makes them so fresh and so clean!
I'm very happy with this summer purchase and will be wearing these on the regular.

Where to find: Givenchy Jelly Gillie Wedge Sandal

I've been on to these for over 4 months- no joke. In the Spring, a sales girl at Pas de deux had them, just earlier this month I saw the Givenchy Jellies in Army Green at the MGMT Concert at the Brooklyn Bandshell. I forgot to ask the woman wear she got them before we left.

I started doing research trying to figure out where on Earth can I get these :1. in my size (40 or 41) and 3. in the color I want ( Army Green or Taupe)

Then, I was perusing the weekly tabs and Kim Khardasian is wearing some Taupe ones while doing relief work ( truly versatile, no?) .

Barney's has them in Fucshia and Orange and virtually everyone is sold out or the color is meh.

Well DJ Lo and Behold- I got word that DSW has them online and retailmenot.com has a coupon code- Free shipping and $25 off.

Will post with pics when they arrive next week!

Au Natural: Givenchy Gloss Poetique Natural Color Enhancer Lipgloss

Since when did natural color enhancing lipsticks go from 1980's Dollar store, Paisley encased- blue , yellow and green sticks to 2009, designer and $45?

I'm lost in the 90's ! Actually, I vividly remember Prescriptives having a natural enhancing lipstick that I drove all over looking for, only for my cousin to purchase it for $16 and for it not to "activate" ( oh, technology..). Now Smashbox has the O-Gloss that seems to be a hit with all skintones, as I tested it on my own and was pleased with the results- they took a step forward and introduced O-Bronze. The Verdict- pleasing.

But I really, really would like to try to justify the Givenchy Natural Color Enhancing Gloss that has popped up on the Fall '09 runway ( was Brandi Quinones wearing it?). I guess I won't know until I try. Currently it is exclusive to Sephora but has yet to crop up in stores. More details to follow! But until then, give me my Smashbox O-Gloss, O-Bronze and the Dollar store stuff too.

Givenchy at Loehmann's!

"Say what?" was my initial reaction but yes its true.
I walked into the Loehmann's in Chelsea and casual browsed the shoe section ( something I rarely do, I usually bolt to the Back Room to check out the deals there).
And low and behold, I was instantly smitten with these beauties!
Givenchy studded heels in a beautiful soft grey leather.
But, I was not finding my size, so since I was a Gold Card member, I inquired about another store having my size ( no they didn't since they are debuting in NYC and will  be in select stores in the coming months). BUT! they had my size on the floor- Heaven.
The original price for these babies$770- but with the Loehmann's price, plus 10% off for being a Gold Card insider member, I got these for 66% off!!

Givenchy moin cher?

I first saw these when Nitrolicious posted them.
Is haute couture and ready-to-wear designers catering to the shoe masses? Tis true, it is the end of the it bag and on with the it shoe, as they are damn-near difficult to replicate.
I'm on the fence this one as YSL has a jelly strappy sandal like this that retails for $195, this is their second season of doing it.
Now, Givenchy is doing a snazzy jelly gladiator at $174 on Zappos.com. Would you buy?

Givenchy's Phenomen'eyes Review

After combing Soho, Union and Harold square for Givenchy's new Phenomen'eyes mascara, I finally found it at the Sephora in Time's Square. Yes, I walked 30+ blocks for this mascara and it is definitely worth it!

Tonight, I compared phenom against my plain ol' lashes and I have to say. You can definitely wear the mascara without eyeshadow or liner, why? because the coverage of my lashes has extended beyond my lid!

Phenomen'eyes is described as  a" high-tech brush, revolutionary, patented ball made of ultraflexible elastomer".

The formula is described as" containing a polymer with a curling effect smoothes and shapes lashes, holding the curve of your lashes perfectly in place". I concur respectively.

In pics: on the left, lashes dressed in Phenomen'eyes Phenomen'Black and  to the right, bare lashes.

Sold exclusively at Sephora for $27.
